about
This was originally a track I wrote for an industrial-rock band I played keyboards in, called Kampf Mekanik. As Kampf, we played the song live once, but it was never released.
So, with the blessings of our lead singer (who since went on to guest star on "The Talent Show" song from Practically Sentient), I re-recorded the track entirely, replacing his much more tuneful voice with my abrasive shouty voice, and re-instating the drum intro that was part of my original demo, but was excised from the Kampf version. The differing lyrics of the choruses were also reinstated so they'd change with every chorus.
Thematically, this sets the scene for the rest of the album; a prologue of sorts, if you will.
lyrics
Someone needs to say this right to your face
Before this endless talk of fear and disgrace
Collapse society into somewhere with no escape
Someone needs to tell you this fixation is your demise
Someone needs to tell you this is why you're despised
In this age of doubtful criteria
In this age of well-fed hysteria
Heroes are not born, they die
In this age of guilty serenity
In this age of gutless divinity
Heroes are not born, they die
Someone needs to tell you heroes are the fallen, the prey
Someone needs to tell you heroes are the sullen, the grey
In this age of filthy decrepity
In this age of docile complacency
Heroes are not born, they die
In this age where you make the rules and they
Concede or give up in dismay
In this age where cowards and the sick
Govern the healthy and the weak
Heroes are not born, they die
